Ring sizing done right, on-site

A good sizing should be invisible. We measure your finger, check the ring's metal, shank thickness and stone settings, and then add or remove metal and blend the seam so the band looks and feels like it was always that size. We also check the prongs while the ring is on the bench, so a loose stone doesn't get missed.

How ring sizing works

Step 1
Measure
We size your finger and look over the ring's metal, band and stones.
Step 2
Adjust
Metal is added or removed at the base of the band to reach your new size.
Step 3
Blend & polish
The seam is blended and polished so the band looks like it was always that size.
Step 4
Final check
We inspect the prongs and stones before your ring is ready for pickup.

When a ring can't be sized the usual way

Some rings need a different approach. Eternity bands with stones all the way around, rings with engraving or patterns around the band, and rings made of tungsten or titanium can't always be cut and resized. For these we'll explain the options, which can include sizing beads, a fitted insert, or a Superfit™ adjustable shank if your knuckle is larger than your finger.

For delicate rings, our laser welder lets us join metal with very little heat, which helps protect nearby stones and fine detail.

Signs your ring needs sizing

  • It spins so the center stone turns to the side
  • It slides off easily in cold weather, or leaves a deep mark in warm weather
  • It's hard to get over your knuckle
  • It was a gift or an heirloom and never quite fit

Frequently asked questions

How long does ring sizing take?

Ring sizing isn't a while-you-wait service, because the metal needs to be added or removed, blended and finished properly. When you drop off your ring, we'll look it over and give you a pickup date. Rings with stones around the band, two-tone metal or other special work can take a little longer.

How many sizes can a ring go up or down?

Most gold and platinum rings can be sized up or down a size or two by adding or removing metal. Larger changes are often possible too, but may need more work to keep the band strong. We'll tell you what's realistic before we start.

Can you resize an eternity band or a ring with stones all the way around?

Usually not in the traditional way, because cutting the band would disturb the stones. Depending on the ring, options include sizing beads, a snug-fitting insert, or rebuilding part of the band. Bring it in and we'll show you what works.

Can tungsten, titanium or stainless steel rings be resized?

In most cases, no. These metals are too hard to cut and rejoin. If your ring doesn't fit, we can talk through replacement or alternatives.

My knuckle is bigger than my finger. What can I do?

A Superfit™ adjustable shank opens to slide over the knuckle and closes to fit your finger, so the ring stays put without twisting. It's a Lustig specialty and a good fit for arthritis.

Do I need an appointment?

No. You're welcome to stop in during showroom hours. You can also book a repair visit if you'd like a set time.
